MAINTAINER III

The Town of Windsor is looking to fill a Maintainer III position in the Department of Public Works.

The Position

Receive written work orders or verbal instructions from the Public Works Operations Manager, Crew Leader, or others as designated by the Director of Public Works. Performs manual, semi-skilled and skilled construction, maintenance and repair work in the area of parks and grounds. May oversee the work of others.

Our Ideal Candidate:

• Knowledge of highway construction, repair and maintenance practices.
• Skill in operating dump trucks and a variety of highway maintenance vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of grounds maintenance
• Levels ball fields, places markings on athletic fields, and performs other field maintenance duties. Installs and repairs athletic field goals.
• Skill in operation of mowing, trimming and athletic field maintenance equipment.

• Performs grounds maintenance work. Cuts grass and trims weeds on town property, parks and rights-of-way using riding and walk-behind mowers and trimmers.
• Plants and trims trees, shrubs and bushes. Removes and loads fallen tree limbs, roadside trash and other debris onto truck, and delivers refuse to disposal site; operates tree chipper, chain saws and stump grinder.
• Operates backhoes, light and heavy trucks, tractors, dump trucks, tractors, mowers, power tools, and hand tools. Transports, loads and unloads supplies, equipment and machinery.
• Insures the proper maintenance of vehicles, equipment and tools by routine inspection, cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use, reports defects to the crew leader. Performs basic preventive maintenance as directed by crew leader and/or Operations Manager, Director of Public Works, and his/her designee.
• Operates snow plow, sand spreader, articulated multifunctional machines, and other snow removal equipment to clear snow from streets, parking lots and sidewalks.
• Performs other public works related duties as assigned including assisting with building and highway/street maintenance and Maintainer I and II duties.

Education and/or Experience

• Completion of High School or equivalent, plus a minimum of three years of related highway construction or grounds maintenance experience; OR any combination of training or experience which provides a demonstrated potential to perform the essential duties of the position.
• Must maintain and currently have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with necessary endorsements to operate public works vehicles and equipment, and be able to obtain a valid (CDL-A) license, as necessary.
