Environmental Education Intern

Northwest Park Environmental Education Intern

The Town of Windsor, CT is seeking an Environmental Education Intern for Northwest Park’s nature center during the summer season. Our mission is to connect visitors with nature on our 473-acre campus, featuring diverse ecosystems and hiking trails.

This internship offers hands-on experience in environmental education and interpretation, empowering the intern to create and deliver engaging programs tailored to diverse audiences, from walk-in visitors to organized groups of all ages. The intern will collaborate with the Environmental Education Supervisor to conceptualize, design, and execute a capstone project throughout their internship, fostering professional growth and skill development.

This paid, full-time summer position runs from June to August 2026, with flexible start and end dates. The maximum employment duration is 10 weeks at $17.50 per hour, with a 40-hour weekly schedule, (typically Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break).

First Aid and CPR training are provided, and onsite housing may be available. The position requires a drug screen and criminal background check prior to hiring.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Environmental Education Supervisor and park educators to design public programs for visiting groups and lead scheduled sessions
  • Engage with Camp Foxfire staff and campers, assisting in age-specific activities and special topics as needed
  • Engage visitors in the nature center and outdoors through interactive presentations
  • Support animal care tasks at the nature center and animal barn as needed
  • Contribute to daily nature center operations, including customer service
  • Complete additional tasks assigned by the supervisor, ensuring flexibility and teamwork

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Enrolled in a college/university program
  • At least one year of study in environmental education, biology, or a related field
  • Passion for natural history and teaching
  • Strong communication skills for engaging various groups and ages
  • Ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions
