Public Safety Dispatcher

Location: Windsor, CT

PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER

The Town of Windsor, CT is accepting applications for a full-time Public Safety Dispatcher. This position is part of the UPSEU bargaining unit.

Your typical work activities will include:

  • Receive, monitor and transmit emergency and informational communications
  • Operate a variety of public safety communications equipment including 911 telephone equipment, computer aided dispatch systems, and multi-channel radio systems
  • Assign and dispatch appropriate emergency vehicles, equipment, and personnel in accordance with policy and procedures
  • Answer emergency and nonemergency calls for assistance
  • Request information from other public safety personnel, the general public and other agencies
  • Maintain contact with all units on assignment

Our ideal Candidate will:

  • Possess the ability to exercise excellent judgment in evaluating emergency calls
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize especially under stressful situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully to patrons and team members
  • Share and demonstrate the Town of Windsor’s organizational values of integrity, innovation, passion, partnership and responsiveness
  • Have a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Have a minimum of two years of experience in public safety
  • Applicants with Tele-communicator, Emergency Medical Dispatch, E911 or NIMS certifications preferred
  • Successful completion of Town of Windsor’s background and drug screening process (includes screening for marijuana)

Compensation and Schedule:

  • Starting salary is $64,675 annually. Town employees enjoy a comprehensive benefit package, including but not limited to, health, dental and life insurance, tuition reimbursement, short term disability, and a defined contribution retirement plan.
  • Shift work required: including days, nights, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the department. Priority choice of shifts are bid based on seniority.
